What SMS alerts do I get on my Pre-Paid phone?

Depending on your device, you may receive these alerts:


  • Pre-Paid service activation alerts
  • Low credit alerts
  • Main balance expiry alerts  - four days before expiry
  • Bonus and Plus Pack low balance alerts
  • Account deactivation alerts - 32 days and 8 days before the Recharge Only period ends
  • Change of Pre-Paid offer confirmations
  • Scheduled and automatic recharges
  • BlackBerry BIS subscription cancellation
  • Pre-Paid marketing messages
  • Global roaming alerts
  • Subscriptions and purchases including MessageBank®
  • Mandatory service messages
  • Occasional Telstra service messages


Can I stop the SMS alerts?

Yes, but we recommend you keep them because SMS alerts let you know important information about your Pre-Paid service, like your balance and expiry dates.


To opt out of most SMS alerts:

  • Text the word 'stop' to 125 8884. This is a free service.
  • You’ll get a confirmation message, but it may take up to 24 hours for all alerts to stop.


You will still get some alerts

After you’ve opted out, we will still send you some SMS alerts, including:

  • Mandatory confirmation of things like recharges, change-of-offers and Plus Pack purchases
  • Pre-Paid marketing offers that have a separate opt out
  • Mandatory global roaming alerts
  • MessageBank notifications
  • Occasional Telstra service messages


How do I check balance and expiry dates?

If you opt out of Pre-Paid SMS alerts, you can still check your balance and expiry dates using your device or online. Find out more about Managing your Pre-Paid service.


How do I turn SMS alerts back on?

To opt in again, call our Pre-Paid customer service team on 125 8887.


To change your contact details:

Log in to Telstra 24x7 My Account and edit your 'Personal Details'. 

Telstra 24x7 My Account lets you access your account information in one place, recharge, check your balance, view your usage history, download tax statements and more.


What if I don’t have access to Telstra 24x7 My Account?

To use Telstra 24x7 My Account you need a Telstra ID. You can register here to get a Telstra ID.


Can I view SMS messages on a mobile broadband device?

Yes - if you’re connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, you can access messages on your mobile broadband device at http://m.home.  BUT your device needs to be SMS capable.

Check the device user manual to find out if it's SMS capable, or follow these steps:

  1. Connect your Pre-Paid mobile broadband device
  3. Type http://m.home into your browser
  5. Click the 'SMS' tab to see if you can view SMS messages.
