Telstra Device Care App is a free app that seamlessly transfers all your contacts, photos and video files from one compatible device to another – either via your Wi-Fi or Phone to Phone Network, or by backing up and restoring via Google Drive.

You can also run diagnostic checks with the Device Care app. The app will help to identify any issues with your device and resolve them automatically if possible.

To download the Device Care app click here. Standard data charges apply to download this app.

Good to know:

  • You can only backup your content to Google Drive. If you have an iPhone, you’ll need to create a Google Account to use Google Drive’s Cloud.
  • Once your data is saved to the Cloud, you can log into your Google Drive to view it.

How do I transfer my content with the Device Care app?

  1. Open the app
  2. Select ‘Content Transfer & Back Up
Select ‘Wirelessly transfer content’ and follow the step-by-steps below

Before you start:

  • If you are using an iPhone, make sure the Telstra Device Care App remains as the active app on your screen while you’re transferring as it may not continue transferring in the background.

  2. Open the Telstra Device Care app on both devices

  3. Go to your new phone:

  4. On the app home screen, select ‘Content Transfer & Back Up’
  5. Select ‘Wirelessly transfer content’
  6. Select ‘Transfer over home Wi-Fi network’

  15. If you have already done a partial transfer, the app will give you the option to start again or skip duplicate data. Starting again will take longer.
  16. Your transfer will then begin
  17. When the transfer is done, you’ll see a summary of what content was backed up
  18. To complete the transfer process click ‘Finish’.

To transfer over Phone-to-Phone Network:

  10. Select ‘Transfer over Phone-to-Phone Network’
  11.  Select ‘This is my Old Device’
  12. Select whether your new device is Apple or Android
  13. The app will then prompt you to connect to your new device:
    • If your old device can scan the QR Code on your new device, please scan the code
    • If not, please connect to the Wi-Fi Network using the Wi-Fi name and password generated in the app on the new device
  14. Select the content you want to transfer by checking boxes, then click ‘Next’
  15.  If you have already performed a backup, you will be prompted to either ’Replace all’, or ‘Skip over previous content’
  16. You’ll need to keep the app open on both devices during the transfer
  17. When it’s done, you’ll see a screen confirming your content has been transferred
  18. To complete the transfer process click ‘Finish’.

Good to know:

  • You can still use Android devices while the transfer is taking place
  • The length of time to transfer will depend on the amount and type of content being transferred
  • Wi-Fi transfer is the most stable method. We recommended it for transferring photos and video due to the size of the data.

How do I backup or restore content with the Device Care App?

Our Device Care App lets you backup your phone’s data to the Cloud on Google Drive, then leave it until you’re ready to restore it. Or backup and transfer directly to a new phone.

To backup, just log in to your Google Account and follow the step-by-steps below.

Good to know:

  • Make sure you have enough space in your Google Drive before you start a backup.
  • If you don’t have a Google Account yet, create one here.

To backup your content:

  1. Make sure your original device is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Open the Device Care app
  3. Select ‘Content Transfer & Back Up’
  4. Select ‘Back up or Restore content’
  5. Select ‘Back Up Data to Google Drive’
  6. You’ll see a list of available accounts. Choose the correct one and click ‘OK’. If you don’t see an appropriate account, select ‘Add Account’
  7. You’ll need to approve Telstra Device Care to access your Google Drive
  8. Select the data you want to transfer by checking the boxes, then click ‘Next’
  9. Your phone will connect to Google Drive and begin uploading content to the cloud
  10. When it’s done, you’ll see a summary of what content was backed up
  11. To complete the backup process, click ‘Finish’
  12. You can verify your transfer by checking ‘Device Care Backup’ in your Google Drive.

To restore your content:

  1. Make sure your new device is connected to a Wi-Fi network
  2. Open the Device Care app
  3. Select ‘Content Transfer & Back Up’
  4. Select ‘Back up or Restore content’
  5. Select ‘Restore Data from Google Drive’
  6. You’ll see a list of available accounts. Choose the correct one and click ‘OK’. If you don’t see an appropriate account, select ‘Add Account’.
  7. Your phone will connect to Google Drive and begin downloading all the content.
  8. When it’s done, you’ll see a summary of what content was downloaded.
  9. To complete the restore process, click ‘Finish’.

Good to know:

  • There is no option to restore individual content
  • Using the Google Drive to transfer takes longer than a direct transfer because it is a two-step process that backs up and then restores data
  • Make sure you’re connected to a secure home or work Wi-Fi network when you backup and restore
  • Both backing up and restoring can take hours depending on the amount of data.
