This article gives you step-by-step instructions to add a Telstra email account to your Windows Vista Mail program and tells you the mail server names and numbers you’ll need.

Before you start

You'll need your Telstra email address and password.

Good to know:

  • You may incur data charges when you setup and use your Telstra Mail account.

To add your Telstra email address to Windows Vista Mail:

  1. Open Windows Vista Mail

  2. Select the Account  from the Tools menu, click Add then select Email Account

  3. Add your Telstra email account details:
    • In Display name enter the name you want to appear on the emails you send (usually your name) and click Next
    • In Email address enter your Telstra email address

      Then select Next.

  4. Enter the server settings
    Incoming server information:
    • For ‘My incoming mail server is a’  choose IMAP from the drop-down box
    • For ‘Incoming server’ enter: imap.telstra.com
    Outgoing server information:

    • For ‘Outgoing server’ enter: smtp.telstra.com
    • Make sure ‘Outgoing server requires authentication’ is ticked

      Then select Next

  5.  In ‘Mail Logon’
    • Enter your Telstra email address and password and click Next

      Select Finish.
  6. You will then be back to the ‘Internet Accounts’ page.
    • Your email address will now displayed
    • Click on properties
    • Go to the Advanced tab
    • Enter your server port numbers
      • Outgoing mail 465
      • Incoming mail 993
  • Tick ‘This server requires a secure connection (SSL)’ under BOTH outgoing and incoming mail.  Click Apply and then OK

Your email set up is now complete.
