Moving your email content and contacts & calendar items
We’ll move your email, contacts and calendar items to the new Telstra Mail™ service. If you’ve been advised that we haven’t been able to move your content, you’ll still be able to access content in your Outlook.com email directly through Outlook.com. You’ll also be to manually move your content to Telstra Mail (if required).
If you are using an email client you can continue to view emails prior to the move to Telstra Mail by not changing the email settings. However to access, send or receive emails after the move to Telstra Mail, set up a new email account using the Telstra Mail settings.
Microsoft will automatically remove the content as per their mail ageing policy over time.
Accessing and moving your email content
You can forward individual emails from your Outlook.com account to your Telstra Mail account. If you’d like to forward all of your emails please follow the below steps.
Step 1
If you’ve already got a copy of your email in an email client please proceed to Step 3.
If you haven’t set up an email client please move to Step 2.
Step 2
Setup a new account in your email client using the Outlook.com IMAP email settings
Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
- Incoming Sever port: 993
- Encrypted connection: SSL
Outgoing Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
- Outgoing Sever port: 857
- Authentication: Yes
- Encrypted connection: STARTTLS on port 587
Username & Password
- Enter the full email address (ending in ‘@bigpond.com’, ‘@bigpond.net.au’ or ‘@telstra.com’)
- Enter your Outlook.com account password (case sensitive)
Other settings to check
- Ensure the checkbox is ticked for ‘Outgoing server requires authentication’
Step 3
Setup a new account in your mail client using the new Telstra Mail settings.
Step 4
Drag and drop them into your new Telstra Mail account in your mail client.
Please note if you have a large number of messages this may take some time. It is recommended you drag and drop each individual folder instead of moving all in one attempt.
