Download speeds are capped on our 4G and 5G network on some plans. Your capped download speed is the maximum potential download speed for data included in your recharge. Typical speeds may often be slower and will vary due to factors including location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination. How to access 5G

Our 5G network now reaches over 85% of Australians. To access 5G, you’ll need a 5G compatible device in a 5G coverage area. To see if 5G is in your area, use our 5G coverage checker.

Network speed

Speeds may vary due to factors such as location, distance from the base station, local conditions, concurrent users, hardware and software configuration and download/upload destination.

No excess data charges

If you exceed your included data allowance, you won’t be charged extra but your speed will be capped at 1.5Mbps, and slowed further in busy periods. This isn’t suitable for HD video or high-speed applications and means that some webpages, videos, social media content and files may take longer to load. However, you can still stream video in standard definition, listen to music, browse the web and access social media, even if the experience is slower sometimes. Heavy data users (users in the top 1% of all data users) may experience slower speeds than other users during busy periods.

This plan includes access to Telstra’s 4G, 4GX and 3G networks. Please note, it does NOT include access to our 5G network. 5G network access is included in the $60 SIM recharge. To access the 5G network, you’ll need a 5G compatible device in a 5G coverage area.

5G is only available in selected areas. View the 5G coverage map to see where 5G is available and when it will be coming to your area.

You must be an existing Telstra Customer. You will need your Telstra ID.

1. On your device, open the My Telstra app and log in with your Telstra ID.

2. Go to the ‘Services’ screen and select ‘Add a new Pre-paid service’.

3. Click on ‘Use eSIM on this device’.

4. Select ‘Mobile Phone’ or ‘Tablet/mobile broadband’ .

5. Select a Pre-Paid plan.

6. Complete payment.

7. Review and submit order.

8. Click ‘Continue’ to start eSIM profile download.

9. You'll be taken to your device’s ‘Settings’ screen to complete the eSIM profile installation.

10. After eSIM profile is installed, you'll be sent back to the My Telstra app where you’ll see a ‘Success’ screen.

11. Click ‘Done’ to return to the ‘Services’ screen.

12. Refresh the ‘Services’ screen to see the new eSIM service. It can take up to 4 hours to display your new service.
