EXTRA DATA AT AN AFFORDABLE PRICE

To let you do more on your mobile or tablet, while helping you stay in control of your costs, Telstra has launched Extra Data.

Extra Data automatically tops up your data in blocks of 1GB when you go over your monthly data allowance.

Each 1GB block added only costs $10.

Here’s how it works

If you go over your monthly data allowance, a 1GB block of Extra Data will be automatically applied to your plan for only $10.

If you use the 1GB block before the end of your billing period, we’ll automatically add additional 1GB blocks of Extra Data for only $10 each.

Then, at the end of your billing period, you will return to your normal monthly data allowance.

For any of your data sharing plans, Extra Data blocks can be used by all eligible data sharing services on the same account.

We’ll keep you informed

We’ll continue to send you real time data usage alerts by SMS or email when you reach 50%, 85% and 100% of your monthly data allowance.

You can also keep track of your data usage using the Telstra 24x7 app.

You’ll receive Extra Data confirmation alerts each time we add 1GB of Extra Data to your allowance.

If you’re already on a Telstra mobile, mobile broadband or tablet plan, you can to activate Extra Data in My Account right now.

What’s more, you don’t have to sign up to a new plan to take advantage of this change.

If you have one of our Data Share plans, Extra Data will be automatically applied to your account (unless you decide to opt out). Blocks of Extra Data will be available to use by all services on the Data Share plan.

Extra Data will work with older plans

Data Packs are done

Extra Data replaces the need for Data Packs, and so Data Packs are no longer available for purchase.

If you already have a Data Pack, you can keep it or remove it, but you just can’t change it or add it again after it’s removed. You may find that Extra Data gives you more bytes for your buck.

No More Data Packs

Things you need to know

If you’re a current customer:

  • Once you activate Extra Data you will not be able to deactivate it
  • Any non-shared services will continue to be charged their existing excess usage rates until they opt-in to extra data

All customers:

  • Extra Data is for use in Australia only
  • Unused portions of Extra Data blocks will expire at the end of each billing period

Here’s how it works

If you go over your monthly data allowance, a 1GB block of Extra Data will be automatically applied to your plan for $10.

For any of your plans that support data sharing, we’ll add a single 1GB block of Extra Data to your shared data allowance (instead of adding individual data blocks to each service). Extra Data blocks can be used by all shared services on the same account.

Not just for new plans

From launch, you’ll be able to switch all your existing eligible services to Extra Data.

And, if you take up a new Telstra Business Mobile plan, Mobile Broadband plan or make changes to your existing plans from 12 May 2015, we’ll automatically switch all eligible mobile services on your account to Extra Data.

 

Extra data will work on older plans

Data Packs are done

Extra Data replaces Data Packs on most mobile plans, which means they are no longer be available for purchase.

If you have a Data Pack, you can keep it or remove it, you just can’t change it or add it again after it’s removed. However, you may find that Extra Data gives you more bytes for your buck and gives you easy access to additional data when you need it most. 

If you have an eligible Telstra Mobile Broadband plan, you’ll still be able to buy Data Packs, provided your account hasn’t been switched to Extra Data.

No more data packs

No change for fleet plans

None of these changes apply to fleet plans, such as Business Fleet Connect and Business Mobile Advantage. If you use our fleet plans, you’ll still be able to buy Data Packs for these plans and excess data will continue to be charged at your current ‘per MB’ rate.
