Price changes to Telstra Directory Assistance (DA) 1223 services


What’s changing?

From 1 December 2015, there will be a 50c fee for calling Directory Assistance on 1223 from a home service, a charity business service and a non-profit business service. Customers receiving the Telstra Pensioner Discount will be exempt from this change and can continue to call 1223 at no cost from their Telstra fixed line phone. The fee for calling 1223 from a business service will remain at 50c per call.

The fee for calling 1223 from a mobile will increase from 50c to 95c per call. 

The fee to connect a call to a requested number will increase from 99c to $1.29 per call, plus applicable call charges. All of these prices include GST.

Fees for calls to 1234 and Call Connect 12456 will not change.  

From October 2015, we will be informing customers about these changes by letter, a message on the back of your bill or an SMS to your prepaid mobile service.


What alternatives do I have?

You can search for a number on or download the White Pages® app, which enables you to search for a number on your smart phone. No fees apply when you search for a number using these methods. You can also order a printed version of the White Pages® online or call 1800 810 211 for a free copy.


Disability Helpline Services

Our Directory Assistance Helpline (DAH) assists Telstra customers with a disability to access national directory information. This specialised service is a free call from Telstra and mobile services within Australia.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be unable to use, hold or read a printed telephone directory (e.g. White Pages); and
  • be unable to use the standard Directory Assistance 1223 Service; and
  • be an existing Telstra customer (i.e. have or acquire a basic telephone service or mobile telephone service directly from Telstra) or be an associate of a Telstra customer (e.g. spouse, member of household or employee) and user of the Telstra customer's telephone service; and
  • complete the Directory Assistance Helpline Access Application Form
