Starter Internet plan

More ways to help you stay connected

We've moved you to our Starter Internet plan which gives you more included calls and internet access at no extra cost. Here's how it works.

Your Starter Internet plan - what's changing?

We know staying in touch with family and news is important and because of this we are giving you access to the internet at no extra cost. As a result the name of your plan will now appear on your bill as 'Starter Internet plan'.

The cost of this plan is normally $65 a month, but you’ll receive a discount on your account so the monthly price you’ll pay remains the same amount as your current home phone plan.

Your plan includes

  • Unlimited calls to standard local, national and Australian mobile numbers
  • Unlimited calls to numbers beginning with 13
  • Internet access with 50GB data each month. If you use more than 50GB there's no extra charge, your internet speed will be slowed.
  • International Plus Rates – Included (call rates start at 1c per minute plus a 55c call connection fee).

You don't need to do anything

  • Your plan has already been upgraded, so you can keep making calls as normal.
  • On your next bill, you'll see your new plan name and  part month charges and credits. To show you how this may look, see Understanding your bill (PDF, 900KB)
  • If you receive your bill quarterly, this will now arrive monthly.
  • If you’d like to start using the internet, follow the steps below for an easy guide on how to connect.

How to connect to the internet

You should already have everything you need to connect to your home internet. A Telstra modem will have been set up in your home with your previous plan. Connecting won’t require extra cords – it can be done wirelessly (called Wi-Fi). All you’ll need is your desktop or laptop computer, mobile phone, or tablet.

Follow the steps below for an easy guide on how to connect.

Step 1: Find your Wi-Fi network name and password.

Check the fridge magnet that came with the Telstra modem as it shows your Wi-Fi network’s name and dedicated password. If you didn’t keep your fridge magnet, there will be a sticker on the modem itself. Check all sides of the modem, including under the base.

Step 2: Turn on your computer’s Wi-Fi.

If you’re using a laptop or desktop computer, find your Wi-Fi or internet icon button. This will appear to the right in the bar along the top of the screen on an Apple computer, or the base of the screen on Windows. Click to open a menu of options, then select ‘Turn Wi-Fi on’, or similar.

If you’re using a mobile phone or tablet:

On iPhone or iPad, select the ‘Settings’ icon on your home screen, then the option ‘Wi-Fi’. When ‘Wi-Fi’ appears near the top, click the switch button to turn on.

On an Android device, find and open ‘Settings’ among your apps, then select ‘Connections’. ‘Wi-Fi’ will appear near the top with a switch button. Click this button to turn your Wi-Fi on.

Step 3: Select your Wi-Fi network.

Your device should automatically open a list of available networks. When your Wi-Fi network’s name appears on this list, select it.

Apple
Android

Step 4: Enter your password.

You will now be prompted to give your password. Type this in and click 'Join’. You should now be connected to the internet. The Wi-Fi icon will look like this.

Step 1

Enter your password.

Step 2

Once you type in your password, the Join link link will change colours. Click on the Join link and you will be connected to 'Wi-Fi'.

Step 3

Now to access the internet from your home screen select Safari and you can start searching for internet sites.
