V8 Supercars Racing Recruit search narrows to two

Media Release, 15 November 2012

Twenty-year old Kevin Stewart from Morley, WA and twenty-one year old Tom Rann from Spring Grove, NSW are just one trial away from joining a leading V8 Supercars team in 2013 after making it through to the final two of the Telstra Racing Recruit search.

The Telstra Racing Recruit is a national search run by Telstra and Ford Performance Racing (FPR) to uncover a third-year mechanic apprentice to join the FPR team for the 2013 V8 Supercars Championship.

Kevin and Tom will be part of the Ford Performance Racing outfit on-track during the 14th round of the V8 Supercars Championship at Winton.  Both competitors will be put through their paces to decide the ultimate winner.

The nerves and excitement are at an all-time high for both recruits as they prepares for Winton and potentially securing a dream role as part of a V8 Supercars team.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the team for the race at Winton this weekend and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure that the team has success and that I’ve got a role as a mechanic apprentice next year,” said Kevin.

“I’ve never been to a V8 Supercars race before, but my passion is working as a mechanic and I can’t wait for the weekend and to be part of the FPR team,” added Tom.

Both competitors will be in the heart of all the on-track action and will be assessed by the Ford Performance Racing team, including V8 Supercars drivers Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.

Ford Performance Racing Team Manager, Chris O’Toole, revealed that both recruits would need to bring their A-game and be able to handle the pressure on track when it counts.

“The environment and expectation kick up a gear when the team hits any race meet and both guys will need to quickly adapt to the pace around them and listen to what’s expected so there are no errors,” said Mr O’Toole.

“Our team takes pride in the preparation and execution during races; Kevin and Tom have demonstrated so far they have what it takes to be a successful FPR team member.  We’ll see what happens on the weekend!”

Competition is tight coming into the final two rounds of the 2012 V8 Supercars Championship and every point will count for both Winterbottom and Davison as Ford Performance Racing come up against their rivals.

The Telstra Racing Recruit will be announced during the week leading into the final race of the 2012 V8 Supercar Championship, the Sydney Telstra 500 (Friday 30 November – Sunday 2 December 2012).
