Telstra announced yesterday that it had been selected as the preferred tenderer to build and maintain Queensland’s Government Wireless Network (GWN) which will improve communications infrastructure for public safety agencies (PSAs).

On successful contract completion, Telstra will design, build, operate and maintain the network. Telstra was announced as the preferred tenderer today by Premier Campbell Newman and Treasurer Tim Nicholls.

Gordon Ballantyne, Chief Customer Officer, Telstra, said the project will deliver enhanced communications for Queensland’s Public Safety Agencies (PSAs).

“This project will result in long-term benefits designed to support public safety agencies and communications security,” Mr Ballantyne said.

“We look forward to working closely with the Queensland government to finalise the agreement and roll out this very important project.

“It is a great step for the people of Queensland towards improving communications for critical community services.”
