BigPond customers are set to experience a faster and improved email service called BigPond with Windows Live. The new service will have more storage, Microsoft Office apps and the ability to edit and share photos and movies, all without BigPond customers having to change their email address.
Telstra, in partnership with Microsoft has announced it will provide Microsoft Hotmail, SkyDrive and Windows Live to its 4.2 million BigPond mailboxes.
Telstra Executive Director of Media, Applications and User Experience, J-B Rousselot, said our customers have told us they wanted more from their email service, but they only wanted improvements if they could keep their email address.
“New BigPond email customers will receive the Windows Live service while existing customers will be contacted over the course of the year with instructions on how to being the migration process.” Mr Rousselot said.
BigPond with Windows Live customers will now receive Australia’s number one webmail service, Hotmail, including features such as:
- Microsoft Office Web Apps, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- The ability to store and share virtually unlimited amounts of photos and documents with SkyDrive.
- Windows Live Messenger
- Create, edit and share photos and movies with Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Movie Maker.
“To assist customers we have set up a dedicated ‘self help’ website including “how to” videos, Q&A's and updates on progress of the changeover.” Mr Rousselot said.
“Our social media channels and 13 POND are ready to help our customers if they need help with moving photos, blogs and other applications.” Mr Rousselot said.
“The value for BigPond customers is that Hotmail offers a fast, secure and reliable email service - but this is so much more than just email. The suite of Windows Live products also includes; enhanced security features, and virtually unlimited storage of photos and documents in the cloud with SkyDrive” said Kevin Grobler, Partner Alliance Business Development Manager, Microsoft Australia.
“Our goal is to help our customers through the process and make it as easy as possible for them but we also understand that our customers may have a lot of questions or appreciate some guidance. With our call centre, and the online site, we are here to help,” Mr Rousselot said.
Telstra’s move to integrate BigPond with Windows Live follows the formation of a strategic alliance between Telstra and Microsoft in late 2008.
