Tasmania's best businesses vying for prestigious awards

Media Release, 11 June 2013

Six food producers and tourism operators that lead the way in promoting Tasmania as an attractive travel destination are among 17 finalists in the 2013 Telstra Tasmanian Business Awards.

The state’s unique food and beverage producers and suppliers are represented among the finalists by Glenorchy fishing, wholesaling and processing business, Mures Fishing, boutique premium coffee enterprise doctor coffee, from Battery Point, Travellers Rest-based, gluten-free products wholesaler Sky Ranch Bakehouse, and cheese and agri-tourism business, Bruny Island Cheese Company.

Jump Tours, a tour and accommodation provider from Mornington, and eco-tourism flight operator, Tasmanian Air Adventures, are among finalists whose businesses also showcase the best destinations that Tasmania has to offer.

Michael Patterson, Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for Tasmania, said the range and experience of the Tasmanian businesses vying for this year’s awards was a positive sign for the growth of the local economy.

“The calibre of Tasmanian finalists for this year’s awards is outstanding and goes to show why small and medium businesses are the backbone of Australia,” said Mr Patterson.

“It is so important that we recognise the businesses that support our local communities and celebrate the significant contribution they make by creating jobs, driving innovation and bringing their expertise and innovations to customers - locally and all over the world.”
