Media Release, 20 March 2012

Armidale locals are invited to come along and learn how to unlock the mysteries of the internet when TV’s Gadget Guy, Peter Blasina, hosts free and fun Telstra Connected technology workshops on Wednesday, 4 April.

The workshops will allow tech-curious Armidale locals to demystify the internet and log on to the cyber world with confidence and knowledge.

Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for North West NSW, Tricia Wilson, said the internet is becoming an increasingly important communication tool for Armidale locals of all ages to stay connected with their family, friends and communities plus conduct online banking and search for entertainment and travel options.

“The workshop will cater for locals with a range of technical knowledge – from those who have never used the Internet, to those who are regularly surfing the net and are looking for tips to get the most out of their online experience,” said Ms Wilson.

“Peter will discuss the importance of cyber-safety, sending emails and gaining access to a whole new world of exciting and useful information. Peter is very colourful and knowledgeable and the workshop will be conducted in a fun and entertaining environment.

“We’re pleased to be able to bring one of the country’s most respected technology experts to Armidale to answer people’s questions, and help locals get the most out of the latest internet technology.

“With the arrival of the NBN in Armidale, we’re seeing increasing interest from people wanting to get up to speed with this new era in communications.”

Students from O’Connor Catholic College will also help guide locals through the hands-on sessions.

“We are proud to be involved in this local community initiative where students can share their knowledge and capability. Our students have grown up in the technology era, and we now have programs in schools that use the internet as a learning tool," said Principal Charlie Allen.
