Facebook app puts Telstra Pre-Paid customers in control

Telstra customers will be among the first in the world to control their Pre-Paid mobile service directly from Facebook® with the launch today of the My Telstra Pre-Paid application.

Warwick Bray, Executive Director, Telstra Mobile said the new My Telstra Pre-Paid app was the first of its kind to launch in Australia and made topping up and managing a Pre-Paid mobile service as quick and easy as posting a status update.

“We know our Pre-Paid customers love spending time connecting with friends on Facebook. We also know they find running out of credit a hassle. So we’re introducing the My Telstra Pre-Paid Facebook app which lets customers track their mobile balance, recharge their service and view usage history from one of the most popular places on the web.”

“In just a few clicks customers can use the app to check their balance information, recharge with a stored debit or credit card and view up to 180 days of usage and recharge history. And should a customer run out of credit, they can ask their mates for a top up using the ‘request credit from friends’ feature which provides the option to put a call out on their Facebook wall or via a direct message,” Mr Bray said.

Gerd Schenkel, Executive Director, Telstra Digital, said the new Facebook app represented another important step in the company’s broader digital strategy to develop more convenient and faster ways for customers to interact with us. 

“It is important to continue to build out the online sales and service experience for customers and ensure we are where they are -- whether that is online at telstra.com or in the social media space such as Facebook and Twitter. . 

“The 100,000 people who “liked” our Telstra24x7 Facebook page expect us to continue to expand our online services which already include a one-hour inquiry response promise and our 24x7 live chat service," Mr Schenkel said.

In addition to the new Facebook application, Telstra is launching a new Android™ app that makes it easier for Pre-Paid customers to manage their service direct from their mobile handset.

Customers who download the My Pre-Paid app will be able to view and change their current Pre-Paid offer, recharge using a voucher, a stored credit or debit card and send credit to another Pre-Paid service via Credit Me2U®. The app will launch in the coming weeks and will be available to download from the Google PlayTM store on select handsets.

The My Telstra Pre-Paid app is available to download from Telstra’s dedicated customer service page on Facebook: www.facebook.com/telstra24x7. Customers can also search for ‘My Telstra Pre-Paid’ using the search tool on their Facebook homepage.

Once signed up, the app sits in a customer’s Facebook homepage apps list and is just a click away. No username or passwords are required to manage the account while signed into Facebook but each transaction requires a unique pin to ensure authorisation.
