BigPond waves chequered flag on V8 sponsorship

Media Release, 30 October 2012

Internet Service and digital content provider, BigPond, today announced its highly successful 10 year sponsorship of the V8 Supercars Championship would come to a close at the conclusion of the 2012 season.

BigPond held Championship naming rights and naming rights on key events including the BigPond 400 and the Telstra 500.

Executive Director of Telstra Media, J-B Rousselot, said the company had enjoyed a great 10 year journey with V8 Supercars and the time was right to focus on other opportunities.

“Over the past decade, we have seen amazing developments in both the sport and digital media technology and that has enabled us to bring fans closer to the racing. The time is now right for us to move on,” Mr Rousselot said.

V8 Supercar Director of Commercial and Marketing, John Dunlop, said much of the rapid recent growth of the V8 Supercar Championship was in part due to the successful partnership with BigPond.

“BigPond through its naming rights sponsorship has benefitted V8 Supercars enormously in the past decade and we thank them for their unerring commitment to the sport,” Mr Dunlop said.

“The landscape has changed dramatically in recent years and while we are sadly farewelling BigPond as a naming rights and events partner the future is incredibly exciting,” he said.
