Telstra Velocity Network

Your new home is in an estate that delivers its telecommunication and entertainment services via the Telstra Velocity network1. This allows your home to have a clean roof as external antennas are no longer required and your home is 'future ready' to be connected to new products as they become available. Your services are no longer influenced by the distance from the exchange and the number of users on the network at one time.

The Telstra Velocity Home Wiring Guide (PDF, 1.27MB) explains the home cabling requirements and options for you. We recommend that you discuss these options and other needs with your builder prior to you starting building your new home. If you are living in a apartment your wiring needs will have been considered by your builder prior to the apartments being built.

Battery back-up

The Telstra Velocity Optical Network Terminator (ONT) is the device that divides the Telstra Velocity network from the cabling/equipment in your property. This ONT needs a 240V power supply for it to operate. An optional back-up battery should be installed in this Power Supply Unit to avoid interruption to your telephone service when there is a power failure.

During a power failure, the back-up battery will ensure that you will be able to receive or make telephone calls - including calls to the emergency 000 service. It is your responsibility to ensure that the battery is not flat or faulty and is replaced as per the manufacturer's specifications.

Things you need to know

  1. Your home needs to be wired specifically for the Telstra Velocity services to operate. Telstra cannot guarantee your service delivery if your home has not been wired to the Velocity cabling requirements. Discuss your wiring needs with your builder and make sure your builder is aware that you live in a Telstra Velocity estate.
  2. FOXTEL only available in FOXTEL areas.
