What's the best option for me?

I only want to make calls and use SMS while I’m overseas

Check out our International Roaming Voice Plan. It gives you a set monthly allowance to use while you're travelling and a discount on calls and texts in selected destinations.

I want to use my mobile phone to browse the internet and send emails. I also want to access the web on my laptop or tablet.

An International Frequent Traveller Data Plan gives you a monthly allowance and is ideal if you travel overseas regularly. Alternatively, our International Casual Traveller Data Pack lasts for 30 days if you are on a short trip or don’t travel often.

Be smart and save

It's very important that you understand the cost of using your phone overseas. International Roaming is not included in our standard plans. Make sure you're familiar with the International Roaming rates that apply to your calls and data usage. These are charged on top of your standard monthly mobile plan charges. When overseas, if you are using data which is not included in a International Casual Traveller Data Pack or International Frequent Traveller Data Plan, data will cost $3 per MB and is charged per kilobyte or part thereof (1MB = 1024Kb).

International Frequent Data Plans

Our post-paid International Roaming Data Plans offer:

  • A way to stay connected to your emails, using data applications on your mobile device
  • Internet access on your computer when overseas
  • Ability to pay a monthly fee and get a monthly allowance
  • Allowance is also used towards eligible data usage on your Telstra Post-Paid mobile or Telstra Mobile Broadband services in eligible countries.

Please note: If you take up an International Frequent Data Plan on or after 8 May 2013, your plan will be for a minimum term of six months, and early termination charges may apply if your plan is cancelled early. If you take up an International Frequent Traveller Plan on or before 7 May 2013, your plan will be a casual plan and will continue on a month to month basis until cancelled.

Buy an International Casual Traveller Data Pack

International Casual Traveller Data Packs are available with eligible Telstra Post-Paid Mobile and Telstra Mobile Broadband® services.

The included allowance expires 30-days after the International Casual Traveller Data Pack is applied to your service and any unused allowance will be forfeited at this time.

If you use up your included data allowance, or use your service to access data in a way that is not covered by your pack (for example in a country which is not a selected country), data usage will cost $3 per MB (charged per kilobyte or part thereof).

Voice Plans

Our post-paid International Roaming Voice Plans provide:

  • A set monthly allowance to use towards voice calls and SMS messages sent and received in all international destinations where roaming is available
  • A discount on all voice calls and SMS messages sent and received using your Telstra Post-Paid mobile in the following international destinations

You may only use your discount on voice calls and SMS messages in the following international destinations

Your choices are:

$15 per month $100 per month
For $15 a month, you get an allowance of $10 towards standard voice calls made and received and SMS messages sent in all eligible international destinations. For $100 a month, you get an allowance of $90 towards standard voice calls made and received and SMS messages sent in all eligible international destinations.
You also get a 10% discount on all standard voice calls and SMS made in selected overseas countries each month. You also get a 20% discount on all standard voice calls and SMS made in selected overseas countries each month.

What you need to know about your International Roaming Voice Plan:

Once you've reached your monthly International Roaming Voice Plan allowance, you'll continue to receive the discount on all voice calls and SMS sent and received in the above international destinations. However, this discount will be applied to our normal International Roaming rates for any additional voice calls and SMS.

  • The monthly allowance of your International Roaming Voice Plan will be deducted from your total voice call and SMS message usage after all eligible usage has been discounted at the applicable rate.
  • The monthly allowance of your International Roaming Voice Plan cannot be used for content charges, for local calls while in Australia, to send or receive data, to make or receive video and satellite calls, or to send or receive MMS messages overseas. You must pay for such usage in addition to your monthly plan charge.
  • Any unused monthly allowance expires at the end of each month and does not carry over.
  • The monthly plan charge will be billed to your Telstra account each month.
  • If you purchase a plan part way through a billing month, the monthly plan charge and included plan allowance will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for the remaining days in that month.
  • You may not have more than one International Roaming Voice Plan associated with a Telstra post-paid mobile service at any one time.
  • You may cancel your International Roaming Voice Plan at any time without any early termination charges.
  • If you cancel your International Roaming Voice Plan part way through a billing month, your monthly plan charge and included plan allowance for that month will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for the days that the plan was active in that month.

Note: If you currently receive discounted International Roaming rates you may not be eligible for the International Roaming Voice Plans. This offer is not available with any other offers unless otherwise specified by us.

Things you need to know

  1. International Frequent Traveller Data Plans purchased on or after 7th April 2013 are only available to customers with a 10-digit business account number.
  2. International Frequent Traveller Data Plans purchased on or after 8th May 2013 are subject to a six month contract term. Early Termination Charges (ETC) apply if you wish to cancel your contract early.
  3. International Frequent Traveller Data Plans purchased on or before 7 May 2013 are on a month-by-month basis and can be terminated at any time.
  4. Once your minimum term (if applicable) expires, your International Frequent Traveller Data Plan will continue on a month to month basis until cancelled.
  5. If you go over your data allowance or use data outside of your allowance (such as use outside the selected countries), data usage will cost $3 per MB (charged per kilobyte or part thereof). Your data allowance cannot be used for content charges, SMS, MMS or data usage in Australia.
  6. If you take-up or cancel your International Frequent Traveller Data Plan part-way through a billing month, your monthly plan charge and included data allowance will be pro-rated according to the days the plan was active in that month.
