Instructions for activating your iPhone 3G

To get your new iPhone 3G started you will need to follow the below instructions.

If you are waiting for your iPhone 3G to arrive there are a few things you can do to get ready:

  1. You will need to download the latest version of iTunes to activate your Apple iPhone 3G (as at 12 September this was version 8)
  2. If you don't currently have iTunes on your computer please be aware that the download of the application will be 81MB
  3. Make sure that all other applications are closed before iTunes is downloaded/upgraded
  4. Please remember to watch the screen during the download and follow all prompts as per a standard application installation
  5. Once you have downloaded or upgraded to the latest version of iTunes® you should set up an iTunes account. To do this you will need a valid credit card or iTunes voucher.

Now you have completed the first steps. When your iPhone 3G arrives, please proceed with the next stage of set up.

Once your iPhone 3G has arrived you will need to activate the device before you can turn your new iPhone on. To do this please follow the below instructions:

  1. Put your Telstra Next G™ SIM card into the device using the SIM tool. The SIM tool can be found in the iPhone 3G box.
  2. Open iTunes on your computer. Remember to check that you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes
  3. Connect the USB cable from the device to your computer
  4. A pop up box will come up to confirm "successful unbricking"
  5. When the iPhone is activated it will then automatically begin to sync with your iTunes. At this stage a software update will be downloaded onto your iPhone 3G. This update is 250MB.
  6. Once the software upgrade has been completed iTunes will begin to sync with your iPhone 3G and will guide you through a process of syncing your contacts, calendar, music, and internet bookmarks. If you choose to sync this information it may take some time depending on how much information is been transferred between your iTunes account and the iPhone 3G.
  7. Once all syncing is complete you are free to unplug the device from your computer

Now you can set up BigPond for iPhone onto the Home Screen of your device. This will give you one click access to a great range of BigPond Mobile content services that are all FREE to Browse on the Home Tab such as:

Once set up you will have once click access to:

  • Yellow™ Mobile
