Mike Leyland shows you how to travel and stay connected with loved ones

Times have certainly changed since I was travelling around the countryside with The Leyland Brothers. Now that I’m retired, my wife Margie and I still love to get away from home. But our family is growing and our daughter Kerry is expecting her first baby. So while we love to travel, we don’t want to miss any special moments from home. Now with Telstra we can travel over the countryside and stay connected with friends and family along the way. Let me show you how...

Take your life with you

For long-term travellers

With BigPond® Wireless Broadband, my wife Margie and I travel and stay in touch with our family at the same time.

A BigPond Wireless Broadband plan gives us the flexibility to keep up with the latest news, manage our finances and be a part of special family moments no matter how long we are away.

And because it uses the Next G™ network, BigPond Wireless Broadband has coverage to 98.9% of the Australian population, so we can access the internet in many places.

It really is the only solution for highspeed wireless broadband when travelling outside many major towns.

Staying connected is as simple as carrying a USB mobile card, which slips easily into the side of our laptop.

Then when we’re on the road, we just plug it in and we’re connected.

I especially like the convenience of accessing online banking – it’s more secure than an internet café.

For short-term travellers

To stay connected to the internet on short trips, Telstra also offers Mobile as a Modem.

It’s as simple as it sounds. The Next G™ mobile phone becomes a modem that is used to access the internet.

All you need to do is pay for a Data Browsing Pack as you need it, without having to sign up to a long-term plan.

And because it uses the Next G™ network, Mobile as a Modem covers 98.9% of the Australian population, so you can access the internet in many places.

Share special moments

While travelling, Margie and I love to share our experiences with family and friends, as they happen.

With the Samsung A412 on the Telstra Next G™ network we keep everyone up to date with our adventures, using video and picture messaging. And we also receive video messages from Kerry – with regular baby updates.

Information when you’re on the move

Also, some information on the Next G™ handset is free1 to browse. Which means we can view information like the news at no charge, provided we access it via the “Home” or “Today” tabs of the BigPond menu.

We check the weather every morning before we make our plans. And Margie often searches Whereis® Mobile to find local restaurants and wineries as we go.

Mobile as a Modem

If you already have a Next G™ handset you are ready to go.

With a $5 data browsing pack you can download two websites per week for information such as weather, news updates, stock reports, or alternatively, you can access six standard emails per week.

There is a range of packs available depending on your needs. Mobile as a Modem is available on all Next G™ handsets. For more information, go to telstra.com.au/mobilemodem.
