Top up Your Telstra PhoneAway® Card

Charging an amount to a major credit card

You can add value to your PhoneAway card by charging an amount to a major credit card over the telephone or online.

To add value over the telephone:

  1. Dial 18933~ or 1800 150 117
  2. Select from one of the language options (press 1 for English).
  3. Enter your PhoneAway card number.
  4. Select the options menu by entering * 1.
  5. Dial * 4 for credit card top up.
  6. Then follow the remaining instructions.

Important note: You can add value to your PhoneAway card in amounts of $10, $15, $20, $25, $30 or $50 over the telephone or online.

Credit card top up is restricted to the use of one designated credit card of your choice for each PhoneAway calling card. You cannot alternate between different credit cards for future credit card top up transactions.

You can only add value up to $100 in one day, have no more than $200 value on your card at any time, and no more than $1,000 over the life of the card.

Transferring from another PhoneAway card

You can transfer value from one PhoneAway card to another over the telephone or online.

To transfer value online your card must be registered.

To transfer value over the telephone:

  1. Dial 18933¹ or enter the access number for the country you are in.
  2. Select from one of the language options (press 1 for English).
  3. Enter the card number of the PhoneAway card you wish to transfer value to.
  4. Select the options menu by entering * 1.
  5. Dial * 7 to transfer value.
  6. Enter the card number of the PhoneAway card from which you wish to transfer the value.
  7. Then follow the remaining instructions.

Important note: If you are transferring value from another PhoneAway card, there is a limit of three transfers to a card per day and five transfers to a card per week.

Things you need to know

1 A free call from most fixed phones and Telstra mobile phones within Australia (excluding Telstra Pre-Paid mobile which cannot be used to make a PhoneAway call using 18933).

Recharging using BPAY®

You can use BPAY® to add credit to PhoneAway cards that have been purchased online or specially marked with the BPAY logo.

If you have not used BPAY before, register with your bank, credit union, building society or other participating financial institution for telephone and internet banking. For more information, please visit www.bpay.com.au.

Once registered, call your participating financial institution's telephone banking service or log onto their internet banking service to make a payment of between $15 and $100 from your cheque or savings account. BPAY payments cannot be made from a credit card account.

Select the BPAY option and follow the prompts.

  • You will need our Biller Code and your Customer Reference Number to add credit to your PhoneAway card: Our Biller Code is 150961
  • Your Customer Reference Number is your 12 digit PhoneAway number (located on the card)
  • Please wait for and retain a record of your receipt number.

The credit should be applied within one banking day of Telstra's receipt of your recharge payment. There may be a delay if you miss your bank's cut off times for BPAY transactions and on weekends and public holidays. If you experience problems with a BPAY recharge transaction, please contact your participating financial institution in the first instance.

Please note, customers with a calling card voucher cannot use this service at present. This site will be updated when the use of BPAY with vouchers is possible.
