How to Make a Call
From Australia
Telstra PhoneAway® works with most touchtone phones. If a touchtone phone is not available, the call will go through to an operator who will assist you in placing your call.
PhoneAway cards cannot be used to make calls to 1900, 0500, or operator assisted calls, or calls from public credit card only phones.
Calling From Australia
- Dial 18933~ or 1800 150 117.
- Select from one of the language options. (Press 1 for English).
- Enter your 12-digit PhoneAway® card number.
- Listen to hear your remaining credit.
- Enter the telephone number you wish to call for calls in Australia including the area code (even for local calls) followed by #. To call overseas dial 0011, then enter the country code, area code and the number you wish to call followed by the #.
- You will hear a beep when your remaining credit is low.
- To make another call (follow-on calling), simply wait until the other person hangs up OR press # followed by * for an immediate follow-on call.
Things you need to know
~ A free call from most fixed phones and Telstra mobiles within Australia. Telstra Pre-Paid Plus can not be used to make a PhoneAway call using the 18933 Telstra PhoneAway access number.
From Overseas
Calling Australia from overseas
- Dial the access number for the country you are in (refer to Access Numbers below).
- Select from one of the language options. (Press 1 for English).
- Enter your 12-digit PhoneAway® card number.
- Listen to hear your remaining credit.
- Enter the telephone number including the area code (eg. dial 02 for calls to Sydney, Australia) followed by #. There is no need to dial Australia's country code.
- You will hear a beep when your remaining credit is low.
- To make another call (follow-on calling), simply wait until the other person hangs up OR press # followed by * for an immediate follow-on call.

World Calling (calling between overseas countries)
This facility enables you to make calls between various international destinations.¹
- Dial the access number for the country you are.
- Select from one of the language options. Press 1 for English.
- Enter your 12-digit PhoneAway card number.
- Then (as if calling overseas from Australia) enter:
0011 (International access code) - The number you wish to call - including the overseas country code, area code and local number.
- To make another call (follow-on calling), simply wait until the other person hangs up OR press # followed by * key for an immediate follow-on call.
