BlackBerry® device and software downloads
Here you can download the latest BlackBerry handset and desktop software, service packs and hot fixes.
BlackBerry 8100 and 8800 MMS and WAP software upgrade
If you are currently using the Blackberry 8100 and 8800, and have never activated Blackberry email on your device, we recommend downloading this upgrade, which provides improvements to MMS and WAP capabilities.
First, you need to check the software version currently on your device:
- Go to the Options menu and select About
- Check the version number displayed
- If your version number is v4.2.101 your device already contains this software upgrade and you do not need to take any further action
- If your version number is lower than v4.2.101 we recommend downloading this upgrade
Please note this upgrade is a 68MB file and requires to be downloaded to a desktop or laptop device before upgrading the BlackBerry using a USB cable.
Next, install the software. This is an overview of the instructions on the RIM device support page and was current on 16 October 2007.
- Choose BlackBerry Pearl 8100 Smartphone or BlackBerry 8800 from the list
- Click the download link for the package (version number 4.2.1.164)
- Follow prompts to download onto your PC
- Once it has downloaded, open your BlackBerry Desktop Manager (Desktop Manager comes with BlackBerry devices and enables management of software, settings and configurations)
- Connect the device to your PC with the USB cable and type in device password
- In Desktop Manager, select Application Loader and follow the prompts to transfer the software from the PC to your BlackBerry device
- You will know the software has downloaded correctly to your phone by going to the Options menu and selecting About. The version number should now read v4.2.101.
