Get a Telstra Pre-Paid micro-SIM card with an included 3GB of data to get you started. Data allowance is valid for 30 days and cannot be used while roaming overseas.
Getting Started
If you already have your new Telstra Pre-Paid micro-SIM card, just follow the next steps to get going.
Step 1. Activate your micro-SIM card by calling 13 2200 and following the prompts. You’ll also need:
- Identification such as driver’s license or passport and your date of birth.
- The service number and SIM serial number that can be found on the back of the iPad starter pack.
- Authority to create a new account, or to link this new service with an existing service.
Step 2. Insert your micro-SIM into the iPad by following these steps:
- Insert the eject tool that came with the iPad into the small hole on the micro-SIM tray slot located on the left side of your iPad.
- Push it straight in and press firmly until the tray pops out.
- Pop out the micro-SIM from the holder, and place it into the micro-SIM tray.
- With the tray aligned, carefully push the micro-SIM back into the tray slot.
Step 3. Connect the iPad to a USB port on your Mac or PC, using the cable that came with the iPad and open iTunes on your computer. If you don’t have the latest version of iTunes, download it from itunes.com/download using an Internet browser.
Step 4. Follow on-screen instructions in iTunes to register, set up and sync your iPad.
When the prompt ‘An update is available for your iPad is available’ is displayed, select the Update settings button. Your service will be ready to use, once the activation process completes.

- The data rate per MB (charged per KB) is determined by your most recent recharge denomination, and is for use in Australia. Usage consists of upload and download data transfer. Effective allowance rate does not apply overseas, as standard international roaming charges will apply. Our FairPlay Policy applies.
- Recharge before your expiry date and any unused Recharge Amount credit rolls over. If you recharge your service before your recharge expiry date, the new credit expiry date for your recharge amount will be the longer of either:
- the expiry date for your existing balance (before you recharged); or
- the expiry date for your new recharge amount.
How to
recharge
Recharge as and when you need to, whether you just want to just check your email each day, or get involved in some heavy duty internet access, such as videos and music.
The easiest way to recharge is to set up a shortcut to My Account on your iPad desktop. You won’t need any recharge credit to access this. You just need access to the Telstra Next G® network.
You can do this as follows:
Step 1. Open Safari Internet Browser and type http://myprepaid.telstra.com/ipad in the address bar, then press Go.
Step 2. Once the page loads, touch the button beside the address bar at the top of the browser
Step 3. Select Add to Home Screen then press Add
Once completed a My Account icon will be created on your home screen. You then have the following options to recharge your account..
Handy Hint: To access My Account, from your iPad, you must turn off any Wi-Fi connection that you have open.
