Telstra today launched the new and improved, super-receptive Telstra 165i 'Country Phone' for customers living and working in regional and rural areas, taking even greater advantage of Telstra's Next G™ network - Australia's largest and fastest mobile network.

Telstra Country Wide®, Group Managing Director, Mr Geoff Booth, said the Country Phone, already known for its excellent regional coverage and durability, had been further improved following extensive usability testing and customer feedback.

"The new and improved Country Phone offers faster data download speeds, video calling and access to a range of BigPond® mobile music and photo services. It's also simple to email, synchronise applications with your PC and browse the internet," Mr Booth said.

"Like its predecessor, the new Country Phone offers excellent coverage as it is Blue Tick rated, meaning it is recommended for handheld use in regional and rural Australia,

"The new County Phone's rugged design and pull out antenna that maximises handheld coverage will ensure it will be a big hit in the bush. When combined with a compatible car kit and directly coupled external antenna, it offers customers unmatched coverage performance in more places across Australia.

"The new and improved Country Phone still offers the features customers want such as heat and dust resistance, but is now more compact, comes with an improved screen - making it easier to use when working outdoors, and is AGPS enabled,

"There is no doubt that the original Country Phone has been hugely popular with those living and working in rural and regional Australia. We are confident that even more customers will be impressed with the new, refreshed Country Phone," Mr Booth said.

Telstra Product Management, Executive Director, Mr Ross Fielding, said in addition to its superior coverage, the Country Phone offered customers an impressive line-up of extras.

"The Country Phone includes a 2 megapixel camera, Telstra Mobile Code reader, FM radio, integrated MP3 player, MP3 and polyphonic ringtones, up to 50MB of internal storage and is equipped with Bluetooth wireless technology," Mr Fielding said.

By purchasing the Country Phone on Telstra's Next G™ network, customers can enjoy access to advanced mobile content and applications including BigPond® TV, 33 channels on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra, Sensis® search services, plus an array of the latest news, weather and sports reports.*

The Telstra 165i "Country" Phone has a recommended retail price of $529 and is available on a $30 plan over 24 months. It will be available exclusively on Telstra's Next G™ network from Telstra Shops and dealers, online at Telstra.com (www.telstra.com) or by calling 13 22 00 from 1 December 2008.
