With just two weeks to go until the planned closure of the CDMA network, Telstra today announced the addition of two new handsets to its Next G™ range, the HTC Touch Dual 850 and the Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot Phone.

Ross Fielding, Executive Director, Telstra Product Management said the new devices mean consumers moving from CDMA to the Next G™ network now have more choice than ever.

"Telstra is continuing to grow its range of Next G™ handsets to meet the individual needs and requirements of our customers," he said. "Australians moving to the Next G™ network can now choose from a range 34 handsets, including five PDAs, and the range will continue to grow as more people move to the network."

Telstra Executive Segment Director, Glenice Maclellan, said the new devices would ensure that all customers could enjoy the wide range of services and features on Telstra's extensive Next G network™.

"Mobile phones have come of age and Australians are using them more and more as an essential personal tool, which complements their work and social life with access to email and the internet via a high speed wireless broadband network," Ms Maclellan said.

The HTC Touch Dual 850 PDA combines a powerful operating system and stylish looks. It provides the ultimate in touch and type with a TouchFlo™ interactive 2.6 inch LCD touch screen user interface, the choice of slide out 20-key QWERTY keypad and a 2.0MP camera with auto focus. It is a 3.5G HSDPA multi media device with in-built Windows Mobile 6, giving the user super fast access to email and the web.

The HTC Touch Dual 850 will appeal to the business customer as well as the fashion conscious gadget lover. It has a recommended retail price of $929 and is also available on a Telstra post paid $80 plan.

The new Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot is the second Sony Ericsson handset launched on the Next G™ network following the announcement of the Z750i last month. The handset includes an in-built 5.0MP Cyber-shot camera with autofocus and powerful Xenon flash, 40MB internal memory - expandable via a removable storage card, FM radio, video calling, MMS functionality and much more.

It comes in stylish black and green and incorporates a 2.2 inch 262k colour screen - great for previewing photos taken with the camera. It has a recommended retail price of $829 and is also available on a Telstra post paid $60 phone plan.

By purchasing the Sony Ericsson K850i Cyber-shot or the HTC Touch Dual 850 on Telstra's Next G™ network, customers can enjoy access to advanced mobile content and applications including BigPond® TV, 33 channels on Mobile FOXTEL from Telstra, Sensis® search services, plus an array of the latest news, weather and sports reports.

"Mobile phones have evolved into multi-functional media devices. With the higher download data speeds on Telstra's Next G™ network, customers can take full advantage of richer mobile content and more advanced applications," Mr Fielding said.

The Sony Ericsson K851 Cyber-shot is available today. The HTC Touch Dual 850 will be available January 21.
