Australians unable to attend the sold-out Sydney WAVEAID concert this Saturday, or watch it on Pay TV, can still be part of the experience, with Telstra today announcing that BigPond Music would provide a free broadband webcast of highlights from the concert.

The concert, featuring the crème of Australian rock music, will be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The webcast will be available free of charge and for all broadband users for two weeks from Wednesday 2 February at www.bigpondmusic.com.

Additionally, 200 Telstra staff members have volunteered their time to staff the phones at the WAVEAID donations call centre at the Telstra centre in Burwood in Melbourne.

BigPond Managing Director Justin Milne said today BigPond Music was donating $15,000 to the WAVEAID charities for the rights to webcast the concert for two weeks.

"Telstra is proud to again be able to bring Australians together not only for what will be one of the biggest concerts of the year, but opportunity for the community to again reach deep into their pockets for the victims of the tsunami," Mr Milne said.

"This is another example of Telstra using its infrastructure, resources and services to deliver a great opportunity for Australians.

"We will be ensuring that when people view the webcast they are also encouraged to get with the spirit of the event and make a donation to the charities supported by WAVEAID Australian Red Cross, OXFAM, Community Aid Abroad, UNICEF and Care Australia.

"This is about getting all Australians into the spirit of WAVEAID and thanks to BigPond Music not being at the SCG or not having Pay TV no longer are reasons to miss out," Mr Milne said.

Current Telstra Tsunami fundraising and assistance efforts:
- $1 million corporate donation
- Staff donations matched dollar for dollar once $1m is reached
- Telecommunication support for Aid agencies and victims' families
- Volunteer staffing of Australian Red Cross 'overflow' call centre
- Volunteer staffing of Australia Unites/Reach Out to Asia telecast call centre
- SMS donation service

The WAVEAID webcast is the second current free offering from BigPond Music, which also is providing online coverage of the 2005 Golden Guitars Awards held recently at the Telstra Country Music Festival in Tamworth.
