Telstra has won the Best Project Management award at the World Communication Awards held in London overnight for the Arnhem Land Fibre Project.

The World Communication Awards is one of the most widely-recognised, global industry events.

Telstra International representative Simon Vye accepted Telstra's award in front of more than 500 senior telecom executives from major corporations and vendor organisations around the globe.

Telstra CEO David Thodey said, "It means a lot to the thousands of talented men and women of Telstra to be recognised on the world stage for producing great results".

"As an Australian telecommunications company serving millions of customers across this vast continent and the world, Telstra faces significant challenges every day which are only overcome through the dedication, skill and engineering excellence from our great people. This award goes to all of them - no matter where they are based in Australia and throughout the world".

In addition to the project management award, Telstra was Highly Commended in the Best Mobile Service Provider category and also a finalist in the Best Brand and Best Change-Maker categories.

About the World Communication Awards

The World Communication Awards are organised by Total Telecom and their owners Terrapinn. The 2009 event, held on 25 November in London, marked the eleventh year of these awards.
